Releasing blue balloons for Bennett.

Why Bennett’s Bash?

Well, we are back in cell phone range! Last week we headed as a family of four to Pine Cove camp outside of Tyler, Texas. And it was awesome! I promise I will write a post just on our time there and how God encouraged us. Here’s a quick picture from Nerd Prom one night that makes me smile…

But for now, I want to focus this post on something that’s coming up this week in Lafayette and next week in Dallas…

If you haven’t heard of Bennett’s Bash yet, then maybe you’ve been out of cell phone range like we were at camp! I get a little choked up thinking about it…and anticipating it. The idea for Bennett’s Bash started by two people in two different cities. But God gave them the same heart…to love our family and give back to St. Jude in our baby Bennett’s honor. I love how God does that!

As I think about how wonderful it is to see God at work in this way, I also stop to think about why. Why would God put the idea for Bennett’s Bash in the heart of two people who don’t know each other and live in entirely different cities? I’ve come up with two reasons.

First, God hates cancer. He does. This world is filled with so many different kinds of brokenness stemming from the curse of sin…and God longs for the day we experience the new heaven and earth He has waiting for us. But until that day, He mourns with us as we walk through sufferings such as cancer.

But secondly, God has a plan. And though He is powerful enough to not need us…He is loving enough to include us. I believe that we all have a part to not only fight the spiritual effects of sin, but also the physical effects of sin. That includes fighting cancer and that is why He inspired Bennett’s Bash in the hearts of two amazing people. Through their efforts and the help of their amazing teams, we will be able to fight alongside St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and ensure that they have the means to continue giving families hope for generations to come. Families like ours. Patients like Bennett.

And over the months, the vision for Bennett’s Bash has grown far beyond those first little ideas. I have been completely blown away by the businesses and people donating items for the auctions at both events and the volunteers who have stepped up to help make it all happen. The stage has been set for us to come enjoy celebrating Bennett’s memory and letting his name continue to bless others.

So…are you coming!? Are you joining the fight?! Do you see the difference that you can make by simply attending Bennett’s Bash? All proceeds will go to St. Jude. And there is St. Jude because there’s you!

Ticket sales are already closed for the Dallas location, but you can still come to Bennett’s Bash in Lafayette. Here are some of the awesome auction items that will be available…

So now all I need to do is pick out my dress for the event:) What a great two nights these will be. What a great way to honor and remember our Bennett. What a great way to give back to St. Jude…the place that gave me four more months with my happy boy.

See you there!

  1. I’m so sorry that I can’t attend either. Hope they are a booming success and you raise everything that St. Jude’s deserves. You should get a fabulous dress from rent the runway for the events!!

  2. Didn’t realize we needed to purchase tickets ahead of time. We were planing to attend, but it looks like we’re closed out. Sorry for the oversite – we were loking forward to seeing you.
    We will make a donation.

  3. Dear Megan,
In a tiny way, we support St Jude’s through our Amazon purchases. Maybe some already do, like me. I didn’t want to bring it up before when I thought about it, but this post encouraged me to let you know because so many people buy through Amazon, and every little bit helps. They have a special website (Smile.Amazon.com) and you select one of a few charities.
    God bless you,
    Meni

  4. Hi Coleman family,
