Please hold us up!

The exhaustion has set in. And I have to admit, my heart is growing so weary. I’m tired.

I’m tired of fighting.

I’m tired of being away from my family.

I’m tired of tears.

I’m just plain tired.

We need you to hold us up.

In Exodus 17, the Israelites were fighting the Amalekites. Moses went to the top of the hill with the staff of God in his hands. And when his hands were lifted high, the Israelites were winning. But when he lowered his hands, they were losing.

But Moses had friends. Just like we have you. They stood there with him. They pulled up a rock for him to sit on and then they held up his hands when Moses grew tired.

So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword. … Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner. (Exodus 17:11-15)

We know we will overcome this, but for today, we need you to stand beside us. We need you to pray.

Here are our prayer requests…

  • Pray that Ben and I are emotionally and physically renewed.
  • Pray for Bennett. Last night he was admitted into the hospital because his immune system was low (neutropenia) and he had a fever. More than likely he will be there for the weekend.
  • Pray for Davis and Reide to feel loved this weekend. They got to Memphis last night and within two hours, we had to send Bennett to the hospital.
  • Pray that we would find a place here in Memphis for all of us to live. We are desperate for our family to be together.

I’m comforted just knowing we are not alone. Thank you friends.

  1. We are praying for you. When I wake in the middle of the night, I pray for you all. When my 9 year old, William, wakes in the middle of the night, he prays for Bennett. The Lord is tugging at our hearts to pray for your family.
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness, I say to myself.”The Lord is my portion, therefore I will wait for Him.” Lamentations 3:22-23

  2. You are definitely not alone, my friend! Praying Isaiah 40:29 over y’all…”He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power.”

    1. I’m a friend of Amanda Johnson’s and have been following your story through her. I’m praying for you and your family and would like to help hold your hands up when you grow tired. May you and your husband find renewed strength to keep fighting and may Bennett be forever healed. Praying for you all!

  3. We will hold your arms up. Know that there are many of us who don’t even know you whose hearts are torn and touched by your story. Thank you for being so very brave even though it may just seem like you are doing what comes natural. Your natural is quite supernatural. Hold on to the invisible line of love and hope that binds us together in Christ. We are here for you.

  4. Megan & Family,
We are long-time friends of George and Martha. We live in Valrico, FL, and we and our church, Bell Shoals Baptist, of Brandon, Fl, are praying for all of you.

“The Lord gives strength to his people; The Lord blesses his people with peace.”
    Psalm 29:11

  9. I agree and echo these sweet comments, prayers and scriptures others have shared. Thanks so much for reaching out to us and giving us an opportunity to lift you up in specific ways. Love you guys so much and praying you feel the effect of God honoring these prayers of the saints very soon!

  10. Yes of course we will hold you but also know this symbolicly speaking….
Jesus is the Rock you can rest assured on .Aaron was the first high priest …. Just as Jesus is our high priest and He says what soever we ask in His name shall be done. Hur’s name means liberty, witness , whole and he was a commander of the army. The scripture here is no weapon formed against you shall prosper and I speak to you..”Strength, in the mighty name of Jesus”. May fresh wind come from heaven and renew your being..that you may be restored and God be Glorified..Amen.

  11. Hold on to your comment in this post “Weknow we will overcome this…”

This thought underlines your faith and your faith is the main source of your strength.

So you hold on while we, through prayer, “hold you up.’

  12. Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

This verse helped encourage me when it got tough with my dad. I pray it encourages you too. We are praying with you. Love ya! – Laura

  13. “Dear Lord Jesus,
We are holding up the hands of your precious children Megan and Ben who are your servants here on earth to lead others to you. We ask you for renewed strength to rise up like the eagles. Renew their energy each morning. Heal sweet little Bennett and give him a rich, full life in You. Let his healing be a testimony to a lost world of your love for us.
    In Jesus Name.”

  14. We are in constant prayer for you guys. It’s time like these that we wish God would just take over swiftly and quickly and bring this all to an end; the end He’s planned all along, and we all believe that is complete healing for Bennett. So why did God require Moses’ friends to help Moses? Why, in deed did God even require Moses to lift up his hands. God certainly did not need anything from Moses or his friends, except. . .

What was it God was looking for from His people, obedience, devotion, service, adoration, dependence? Indeed what was it and in our case, what is it? God knows our needs far more than we do. That’s because God knows the plans He has for each of us in much more detail than we could ever comprehend or take in. And He knows how to build that in each of us. God is still in the business of building people, His people, people he loves and desires great things for. That’s us and I am so glad to be in His family along with all of you.

God knew what the Israelites needed that day as well as all those people that were watching what was going on too; and so He acted and invited His servants to act as well.

So we join with you not knowing fully what God is doing but confident that He is watching, and prompting His children, and making sure all comes out just as He planned. Bennett, you, Ben, Davis, and Reide have been invited to raise His Glory high for all the earth to see, and now God is prompting his children to join in even more than before and come along side and hold you up even more than before. God is building in and through all of us more than we know. And God’s great love, mercy, grace, and power are being put on display for all creation to see. We all join in and sing…

” How great is our God – sing with me
How great is our God – and all will see
How great, how great is our God”

Know that the many “we’s” that read your blog, hear your story from one of us, share your story with their friends, and on and on and on. We ARE holding you up in our prayers and asking angels (both human and spirits) to step in when and physically hold you up, just as each of us wish we could do every day. We all love you and pray God’s riches blessings and care for you all.

  15. And here’s the rest of the story…
Corey took the kids to the service and at the end of the service an invitation for those that wanted to go to the front of the church to pray was offered. This is what happened: My very shy, reserved 8 year old son, Cade, darted out to the front of the church. Corey was shocked & thought he might should go check on him. Whe. Cade returned to his seat Corey asked him what he had prayed about. Cade replied, “I prayed for Bennett dad!” God had spoken directly to my son’s heart that night! What a blessing!! God is moving mightily!! I am pray that He will provide specific opportunities for rest. We continue to pray boldly for Bennett all the time!! Love y’all!!

  16. When you walk through the waters, He is with you, He will not let you drown. When you walk through the fires, the flames will not set you ablaze. For He, the Holy One of Israel, is your Savior. Praying for Him to deliver you from exhaustion in the valley to joy on the mountaintop. Praying morning, night, and in between for sweet, sweet Bennett.

  17. My family has been praying! At my children’s daycare, my three year old son, James, asked his teacher if his whole class could pray for y’all, too. And so they, too, have kept y’all in their prayers.

  18. Yesterday, when I was praying for Bennett, the Lord impressed me that you were in desperate need of prayer. I knew you had to be exhausted. So much I need from you when Bennett is awake, then you are too emotionally drained and tired that you cannot sleep. You are in my heart. I wish I lived in Forrest City, AR where I was before Austin, I would be over to help. May God give you the desires of your heart for the family to be together and see Bennett healed.

  19. Know we are joining with the body of Christ in lifting you up this day. You are not alone even though you feel alone. May Christ’s life and love pulse through your veins today, renewing you, giving you renewed hope, vision, strength for the journey. Rest in Him, He will fight for you.

  20. Prayed again after reading this, as we do many times each day. Bennett is your child and he’s God’s child, as you all are!
God will accomplish His purposes in all your lives — hang on to that as best you can.
    We love you all,
    Tom and Margie

  21. Gary and I are praying for you daily. Our hearts are heavy but also full of faith. We serve and awesome God who is bigger than cancer, and we are trusting Him for Bennett’s healing.

  22. We are continually praying for all of you and especially for
Bennett that the Lord’s will, will be done in and through him.
We are praying that the Lord will intercede on your behalf and uplift, refresh and strengthen both of you. We are also praying for Davis, and Reide that they will feel loved and through them the Lord will uplift both of you. All our love Connie & Ron

  23. When I was taking care of my terminally ill dad it got to a point that my body was worn out. The thing that kept on renewing my strength was thus prayer. “Ohh God give the people who are taking care of Bennett not to grow weary or loose hope. God give them strength and peace that surpasses our understanding for you are God Amen”

  24. Hi Megan. I am so sorry for your struggles. I cannot imagine 1/10 of the feelings and emotions it takes to walk this journey day to day. In times of trouble I like to remember this famous poem:

    Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
    when I was suffering from
    anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,
    “You promised me Lord,
    that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during
the most trying periods of my life
    there have only been one
set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most,
you have not been there for me?”

    The Lord replied,
    “The times when you have
seen only one set of footprints,
    is when I carried you.”
Mary Stevenson wrote it in 1936. This is the original version.

I posted the link here also. You can turn your volume on and listen to the sound of the ocean. May it soothe you.

Lord, I want to lift the Colemans up tonight as they grow weary from their struggle dear Lord. We know that your arms are big enough to carry us all through our struggles. May Ben and Megan know that you are carrying them as a loving Father carries his hurting children. Let them rest in the fold of your arms. Make they wake renewed and refreshed dear God. In Jesus’ awesome name we pray. Amen!

    God Bless
    The Broussards.

  25. Praying for Bennett, his brother and sister (who by the way look like just the antidote that he needed as seeing the expressions on their faces especially Bennett’s) and you, Megan and Ben. Praying you will be lifted and renewed and totally refreshed to carry on in fighting this battle with and for your son. God loves you all so much and we all are lifting you guys in prayer asking that You gain the strength you need! I am praying for Baby Bennett’s immune system to improve so he may leave the hospital to be with his family. I am lifting Davis and Reide up in prayer that they are feeling loved and comforted. Mostly, I pray for you and Ben that you will get the rest you need, the comfort and loving power of His Holy Spirit renewing that wonderful spirit that shines from you both. I am “lifting your arms up high!”

  26. We’ve never met, but as a mom of 4, my heart breaks for you. I pray for y’all daily – that Bennett will be completely healed, and that y’all will have the physical and emotional strength you will need to see him through. God bless y’all.

  27. I am like many others that do not even know you personally and yet my heart is so heavy for you and your family! We have a Thursday night ladies bible study at FBC Lafayette and we started praying for you each Thursday night and will continue to do so! I love the story in Exodus that you shared because it is a constant reminder for us not to feel guilty when we are tired. God never intended us to do this journey alone!

  28. My heart as all others is so heavy and cries out for y’all!! I Can’t imagine how much more you and Ben’s heart feels!
Praying everyday for y’all! Several times a day my thoughts are turned to your situation! I cry out to God with My heart so heavy for y’all!!
It can only be God keeping y’all on so many of our hearts! Questions why over and over, yes, but trusting y’all miracle is near! Won’t except anything else!!
I pray y’all feel strength today stronger than ever!! Love, Gwen

  29. The photo reminds me of the most wonderful few days I spent with Davis and Riede in Lafayette. They are so precious. So happy they are with you in Mempis and your family can be together. Praying for you and Ben and the kids everyday….

  30. I am praying for you all as well. Praying the Lord will continue to give you the strength you need. Praying you find a place for your family in Memphis and that His angels will surround you all. I will continue to pray for you daily.

  31. Megan and Ben,
The exhaustion and weariness is inevitable, but you will regain strength and determination. All the prayers and love of thousands will lift you up. Just like Moses friends came to his aid when he became so tired. Even though I am not living this battle with you on a daily basis, I do know what you are going through. I had many days and nights like you described when Kelly was sick. My prayers of course are for Bennett, but I always pray for your family’s strength to remain strong. Much love….

  32. Praying for baby Bennett and your whole family. Praying for strength for the journey, complete healing, peace, for your every need to be met, and for God’s presence to be so strong all around you. I know so many have been, are, and will be praying for you all. Your family has come to my attention through Scott and Dana Belmore on FB. We are members of FBC Lafayette and I know many there are praying you through. Be strong and courageous. Our God is at work and HE loves you with a mighty love.

  33. Thinking of you all this morning. Your strength is amazing, inspiring, and a perfect picture of God’s will. Sending up prayers……

  34. Oh Megan and Ben, we do pray for all of you. We pray for rest for your weariness. We pray for Davis and Reide, so thankful that they are there and of course we pray for precious Baby Bennet. We hold you all close to our hearts with a long hug and a squeeze. Know you’re not alone. The photo of Ben holding Bennett’s hand as he sleeps says it all. Continue to hold on, but remember God is actually the one doing the “holding on” so that we can let go to rest in Him. Psalm 42 and 46

  35. You can do this. You can hold up. You can make the right decisions. You can parent and love all your children. You can do this. You are not alone.

  36. I am honored to pray fervently for all of you. Take your rest now and know that you are covered in prayer by all of us. God knows what you need and WE will continue to talk to Him for you. Blessings.

  37. Praying right now, sweet friend. We asked The Lord for Bennett during our devotion time at Lower Elementary this morning. A girl, by the name Tara, became a volunteer to pray for precious Bennett today. May The Lord strengthen you, Ben, Meg & your dear family. Love from Indonesia.

  38. Ben and Megan,
We are lifting you up and will be continually lifting you up every day to our Father in Heaven…who is the God of all comfort, our refuge and strength. Praying for Bennett to be completely healed, and for a full and abundant life for him that leads others to stand amazed in the presence of our Great God! We are praying for rest for the two of you…and that He will be your strength when you feel you don’t have anything left. Our hearts are heavy for all that ya’ll are going through. Please know that ya’ll are in our prayers and will be each and every day! Your faith in Him during this time is a beautiful picture that is pointing people to our Savior…
