3 KEYS TO INTIMACY: PART TWO

Marriage is hard and building intimacy with your spouse takes a lot of work. Fully knowing each other and fully loving each other at the same time…that’s a commitment. But thankfully we have an example of what that looks like for our marriages. Jesus knows our every flaw but it does not limit or pause His love for us. Rather, He loves us in the midst of those flaws and gives us the grace to grow. But how do you actually develop this kind of intimacy in your marriage? In my last post, I shared that the first key of […]

3 KEYS TO INTIMACY: PART ONE

If you’ve been married for five days or fifty years, you know that marriage takes hard work. And developing intimacy with your spouse is one of the most difficult tasks you will tackle together. This is one of my favorite quotes from Tim Keller’s book, The Meaning of Marriage. It clarifies how difficult intimacy can be. To fully know our spouse and fully love them at the same time is committing to love like only God can love. That is no easy task! But Jesus models this for us in His relationship with His bride, the Church. He fully knows us…every […]

ONE WAY WE MAKE OUR MARRIAGE A PRIORITY

One piece of advice we got as newlyweds was to continue dating each other in marriage. No problem, I thought. We are going to rock this marriage thing and always make time for weekly date nights. And then life set in and almost thirteen years of marriage later, we deserve the medal for the worst daters ever! It happens to the best of us. We want to spend meaningful time with our spouse (hopefully!), but our quality time together quickly takes a backseat to bills, chores, to-dos, kids, sports, exhaustion and everything in between. I can point our dating downfall […]

MY FAVORITE WAY TO MEMORIZE SCRIPTURE WITH THE KIDS

The things we can store in our memory always amazes me. I usually can’t remember what I had for breakfast but I can still sing the entire opening song to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And I couldn’t tell you one of my friends’ phone numbers today, but years (and years) ago before we had fancy phones, I had every person’s number stuck in that brain of mine. One things for sure, we memorize what’s important and useful to us. Memorizing scripture was one of those things I knew I should do, but I never made a habit of it. […]

TEACHING OUR KIDS TO LOVE OTHERS THIS MONTH

Love is in the air…or maybe just in the Target dollar bins. Seriously, it’s exploding hearts everywhere! Valentine’s Day is coming up and for some of us it’s a time for a special date night, some extra goodies for the kids and more pink all around. Honestly, this holiday has never been a big deal for our family. We skip the date night, we let the school parties provide the candy for the kids and we shout out an extra “I love you” on Valentine’s Day. And maybe we eat some conversation hearts too. Other than that, we don’t do […]

WHAT I FAILED TO TEACH MY KIDS ABOUT PRAYER

There are parts of my day when I feel like all I do as a parent is correct my children or break up a fight. I mean, we are really just teaching them to be humans instead of wild animals, right? But then there are other moments when I get a glimmer of hope and see their hearts toward God. Those are definitely my favorite. As parents, we are the primary faith trainers for our kids. Yes, they learn a lot from church, but they learn more from watching us. Especially when it comes to prayer.
