Davis made this yesterday. He is the red person, Bennett is the orange one and that is their house. Brotherly love!

DO YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE BLESSED?

I remember sitting down with a close friend about a year or so ago and something she said changed me. But not right away.

She explained how hard it was to see other people’s “perfect” families and how they would always say, “We are so blessed.” And her comment to me that I’ve never forgotten was something like this… “Am I not blessed because I don’t have that? Am I not blessed because my life isn’t picture perfect but instead has had hardships over and over again?”

I nodded my head like I understood but looking back, I didn’t. At that point, I was in the “picture perfect” group. I thought I was blessed more because of the lack of hardships in my life. Sure, I had ups and downs like everyone and things that stressed me out, but nothing that shook my world. Nothing that completely broke my heart. Nothing…until Bennett.

But now I’ve lost a child. Now my world doesn’t look as perfect to others or to me.  And I am reminded that being blessed isn’t just based on our circumstances working out how we wanted them to. It’s so much more.

Did you know that right after God created man and woman, the Bible says, “God blessed them…” (Genesis 1:28). He blessed them because they were His creation. We are His creation…me and you.

But do you believe that you are blessed…right where you are regardless of your circumstances?

Have you lost a child, a spouse, a sibling? Yes, it’s more pain then you will ever know. But you are blessed.

Has your spouse given up on your marriage? Yes, its not supposed to be that way. But you are blessed.

Have you been lied to over and over again by the one you love? Yes, it hurts. But you are blessed.

Have you struggled to make ends meet and pay the bills? Yes, you wish you had more money. But you are blessed.

Has your child walked away from God and you don’t know what to do? Yes, you desire so much more for them. But you are blessed.

Have you been struggling with depression and don’t know how to even get out of bed each day? Yes, I wish you were set free from it too. But you are blessed.

Have you lost your job and don’t know how you will provide for your family? Yes, the unknown is hard. But you are blessed.

Have you been praying for a baby that you still don’t get to hold? Yes, it’s heartbreaking. But you are blessed.

Have you [fill in the blank…]? Yes, it sucks. But you are blessed.

Regardless of where you are, regardless of the happiness you are in or the pain you are suffering, YOU ARE BLESSED.

Why are you blessed? Because God made you! Psalm 8 says, “[God] made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.” He crowned us with great beauty.

Your circumstances may not be beautiful or feel very honoring. But they don’t define you. Your Creator defines you and He called you “blessed” before He called you anything else.

Beauty and blessing. Good days and hard days. You and me. We are blessed.

Do you believe that? Do you believe that God can use the troubles of your day for good? Do you believe that the burden you are experiencing will not last forever? And that the burden itself can not take away your blessing?

You are not just blessed because everything is going good. Yes, He gives us blessings each day that we need to be thankful for but we must never forget that we are blessed because the Creator of everything first breathed life into us. With His own breath. IN YOU AND ME.

Wow! Because of that alone…I am blessed.

  1. Thanks for the reminder. Oftentimes I don’t think of myself as being blessed. Sometimes its the hardships that remind us that God has blessed us and the hardship is the reminder that no matter what our focus and faith must be in him.

  2. Once again, Meagan, you have blessed us with your Godly insight. HE has given you a beautiful gift. Thank you so much for sharing GOD and His blessing with us. Much love…

  3. Yes, yes, and yes! YES no matter the circumstance I am in; I am truly blessed. It took a long time for me to learn and understand that because no matter what God is good all the time despite the hurt and pain. You and Ben are an inspiration to me and to us all. God Bless!

Each time I hear the following song, I think of you guys and I think the song is fitting to today’s blog. Thanks for sharing with me:

    • Say Amen by Finding Favour

This life is a journey we walk by faith
And there will always be the mountains in our way
But right here in this moment, may our strength be renewed
As we recall what God has done and how we’ve seen Him move

If there’s anybody here who’s found Him faithful
Anybody here who knows He’s able
    Say Amen
And if there’s anybody here who’s seen His power
Anybody here brought through the fire
    Say Amen
Anybody here found joy in the middle of sorrow
    Just Say AMEN!

Sometimes through the darkness, it’s hard to see
So just be brave and follow where He leads
‘Cause greater is the one who’s in us, than he who’s in the world
So child of God remember, the battle is the Lord’s

And if there’s anybody here who’s found Him faithful
Anybody here who knows He’s able
    Say Amen
And if there’s anybody here who’s seen His power
Anybody here brought through the fire
    Say Amen
Anybody here found joy in the middle of sorrow
Peace in the storm, hope for tomorrow
And seen it time and time again
    Then just Say AMEN!

Even in the valley of the shadow when you feel alone in the unknown
Just say Amen, Just say Amen
Even when the storms are raging, Stand and know your not forsaken
Just say Amen, Just say Amen

Is there anybody here, Tell me is there anybody here
    Come on and Say Amen

And if there’s anybody here who’s seen His power
Anybody here brought through the fire
    Come on and Say Amen
Anybody here found joy in the middle of sorrow
Peace in the storm, hope for tomorrow
And seen it time and time again
Just say Amen, Just say Amen!

  4. Wow …. THAT WAS POWERFUL and awakening. I know (and will freely admit) that there ARE times, sometimes many, that I DON’T feel as if I am blessed, even when speaking the very words out loud as if trying to convince myself alone. In reading this, it changes my perspective and rolls everything around 100%!

Yes, in my heart – I DO truly feel blessed and this post will remain with me constantly now as a REMINDER during the good AND THE BAD, that I am ALWAYS BLESSED. It’s one thing to say it with your mouth every day, it’s a whole different story, experience, way of LIVING – to have the strong FAITH to BELIEVE AND KNOW that we truly ARE blessed, far beyond our circumstances that no, do NOT define us.

Thank you …. for this reminder and post. It was much appreciated and loved!

  5. Thank you for that reminder. I think we forget even the beatitudes, all the “blessed” people…most of those circumstances didn’t start off so great. Poor in spirit, persecuted for God’s sake. But we become blessed in how we struggle and win through those bleak circumstances. I pray the same for you.
