It’s no secret that this month is our hardest yet in grieving. It holds memories from last year when Bennett’s tumors were spreading, when the news we received after every scan was bad and not good, when we knew his healing was coming through heaven and not on earth and when we held him for the last time on April 28 and said goodbye.
Plain and simple…it’s a month of heartache as we miss our son. And so far one of the things that has been helpful to me as we wade through the days leading up to his one year anniversary to heaven, is staying busy. I wish the busyness came in the form of cooking and cleaning (maybe one day!), but for now, it’s been staying busy with the kids, busy with house projects, busy with pregnancy and my favorite…busy with helping to plan our 2nd Annual Bennett’s Bash that’s coming up on May 7.
What started as a little idea last year while Bennett was sick, has turned into an amazing event that honors his sweet life and focuses on the children that will walk through the doors of St. Jude tomorrow. I can’t help but share a sneak peak with you of this year’s Bennett’s Bash, and I truly hope you make an effort to join us in supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. It’s the place that fought for Bennett and gave us four more sweet months of his laughter and fist bumps. The place that let us fight cancer and not finances. The place that held our family with grace and compassion the entire journey.
And now part of our journey is to love them back. I hope you will join us!
A Sneak Peak for You…
Bennett’s Bash is happening the evening of Thursday, May 7, in the DFW area at the Hurst Conference Center. Not only will you enjoy a plated dinner with friends, but also an amazing silent auction, hearing from a special guest speaker and live music entertainment from The Aaron Sandoval Band. Be sure to come dressed in cocktail/country-chic attire (yes, this 7-month pregnant mama will be sporting her boots and dancing too!).
Tickets are only on sale until April 24 and not sold at the door (we have already passed last year’s attendance with ticket sales, so please don’t wait!). You can click here to purchase your tickets or to make a donation. And please share with your family and friends that live in the DFW area too!
If you are traveling to the area to join us for Bennett’s Bash, we have a discounted rate at the Holiday Inn Express in Hurst, Texas. You can make your reservation by calling 817-427-1818 and mention Bennett’s Bash.

Guest Speaker, Jeff Pearson, ALSAC/St. Jude CFO
You will love hearing from our guest speaker, Jeff Pearson. Jeff is currently the CFO of ALSAC, the fundraiser arm of St. Jude. He will share his unique perspective of the work happening at St. Jude to create cures and save lives. Before Bennett passed away, we met Jeff and got the chance to spend several moments with him at the hospital. He and others from St. Jude even joined us as we spread Bennett’s ashes in the Mississippi River. We are so excited that you will get the chance to hear from this great leader and good friend.
Many that attended last year’s Bennett’s Bash received an invitation in the mail with all of the details for our event on May 7. I didn’t want you to miss it (click on the picture to see it more clearly)! Attending this year will ensure you get invitations to future Bennett’s Bash events too.
It is so humbling to have such an amazing team giving of their time and talents to make Bennett’s Bash come together. We are all working hard to make sure St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital continues to save lives. As the founder, Danny Thomas, says, “No child should die in the dawn of life. Someday, God willing, we are going to beat all the odds and make childhood cancer a thing of the past.”
I’m ready to make cancer a thing of the past. See you on May 7 at Bennett’s Bash…where we are helping to make that a reality!
